From the recording Go Villain
Poem of the month this time around is a little villainous. We appear to be living in a world where fighting for your rights, and the rights of others has become a dangerous stance. Environmentalists are called terrorists, journalists are called the enemy of the people. When the powers that be control the narrative, and begin painting those who fight for us as villains, than it’s time decide where and who we stand with. I’ve never felt myself living in a time as bleak as the one we find ourselves in now. To me the world has never felt so close to implosion as it does right now, so there’s never been a time when heroes have been so desperately needed... even if that means they must wear the mantle of villain placed on them by spin doctors, lobbyists, corporations, politicians and anyone else who thinks human lives are just pieces to be moved around the board. It’s not just politics though... corporations mine our data and use it to manipulate our social platforms. We already live in a surveilled state... I keep thinking back to grade 10 with my class copy of Orwell’s 1984... I remember thinking at the time, “No one would ever let it get to this point.” I guess sometimes your frustration builds to a point where you feel like you want to scream... I guess this is that for me.
